DAY 1
Working With Story “Dramatherapy helps form a bridge between the art form of theatre and the healing form of drama itself” (Landy) The creative, expressive approach to Dramatherapy is using different art forms and the intentional use of theatre and drama processes to promote healing and change. It gives primacy to the notion of expressing the “inner life” of the individual through the spontaneity of the present moment. Participants will experience: v Physical and vocal warm up exercises to create group cohesion v The art of being spontaneous working with improvisation and personal story v Different ways of accessing the unconscious and inner personas through body awareness, projected play and role-taking. v The therapeutic application of drama and theatre processes with a piece of written text/themed quote, as a stimulus for a devised presentation v How to de-role
Sesame Method The Sesame Method is one of the mainstream Dramatherapy approaches in the UK. It is a symbolic approach placing emphasis on the creative and expressive use of the imagination within the safety and containment of the art forms. Sesame uses drama and movement to promote healing and change. Participants will experience a Sesame Dramatherapy session with a Sesame trained practitioner. The approach will cover the use of movement and natural voice, the use of metaphor, storytelling, music and costume. Participants will gain: v An understanding of the Sesame session structures used by practitioners and a chance to explore and discuss the value of the Sesame approach in relation to other forms of Dramatherapy. v A range of exercises and experiences that will inform your existing practice v A chance to practice session planning in a safe supported setting Structure of the day. v Warm-up using Sesame methods. v Experiential introduction to Sesame using movement, myth and mime v An opportunity to practice newly learned skills and discuss application of the Sesame method with different client groups. DAY 3 The Developmental Model (EPR) Participants will experience a range of Dramatherapy methods and techniques which are contained within the framework of the EPR (Embodiment, Projection, Role) model of diagnosis and assessment. Participants will gain: v An understanding of the importance of the EPR developmental as an assessment tool in Dramatherapy practice and its role in communicating the value of Dramatherapy to multi disciplinary teams. v A range of exercises and experiences that will inform your existing practice v A chance to explore and discuss the value of Dramatherapy as a diagnostic tool. v A chance to practice session planning in a safe supported setting Structure of the day: v Warm-up using EPR methods. v Practical demonstrations and experiential introduction to EPR using a range of methods including movement, projective creative activity, role-play and psychodrama. v An opportunity to discuss application of the EPR method with different client groups. v Whole course closure and feedback with course tutors
